Deadly Parking Spot

For most people, the weekend is a time to catch up on sleep, work overtime, go out to eat, and do a little shopping. Since this is the case, most places tend to be more crowded than usual and finding parking can be a hassle. This past weekend at Lennox Square Mall in Atlanta there was a dispute over a parking spot that lead to the fatal shooting of one man.

Person of interest in the deadly parking lot shooting

Authorities say that there was a argument that started in the parking lot and it continued into the mall. When the victim and suspects left the mall, the argument got worse and that’s when the shooting took place. The victim was 31-years old and he was shot in the head twice. The four suspects tried to flee the scene but ended up crashing their vehicle. The has been a photo released of the 4 suspects but no one arrests have been made. This is a sad case of things going too far. It is never that serious and for someone to lose their life over something as senseless as this is completely unbelievable.

Trump: The First Black President?

When Senator Barack Obama became America’s first black president, he made history. For the black community, Barack Obama became a symbol of hope that anything is possible if you just believe and work hard. The debate about whether Barack Obama was a great president or not is still up for debate among communities of all different races and ethnicities. However, the one aspect of his presidency that can never be taken away from him is that he was the first of his kind to achieve this accomplishment. Well, former NFL player Jack Brewer feels differently about who he considers to be the first black president of the United States.

New Radio Personality Charlemagne tha God gives Jack Brewer Donkey of the Day for his ridiculous comment

During a Black History Month round table discussion at the White House, Jack Brewer says “Mr. President, I don’t mean to interrupt, but I’ve got to say this because it’s Black History Month: man, you are the first black president”(thehill). Brewer’s comment to Trump sparked a lot of outrage but there was an abundance of support from the other celebrities that were in attendance. Everyone is entitled to their opinion on who they choose to support but you can’t go around making statements that are not true. Trump has never identified himself as being black, he doesn’t support the black community in no way shape or form, and he will never understand the harsh realities of being black in America. No matter how hard you try to denounce Barack Obama, he will always go down in history as being the first black president.

Jojo’s Diet

The music industry can be very cut throat. No one cares how you feel, they just want you shut up and make the money. The entertainment business is all about portraying a perfect image. Well, early 2000s pop-singer Jojo is no stranger to this standard. In a recent interview, Jojo recalls how she was on a 500-calorie diet because she wanted her record label to release her album.

She reflects back on the meeting she had with her label and she remembers the president of her label saying “I want you to look as healthy as possible”(theshaderoom). Jojo’s response was “I’m actually the picture of health. I look like a healthy girl who eats, who is active. I don’t think this is about my health. I think that you want me to be really skinny”(theshaderoom). Jojo states “I ended up getting put with a nutritionist that had me on a 500-calorie a day diet. I was on these injections that made you have no appetite. I was like, “Let me see how skinny I could get cuz maybe then they’ll put out an album. Maybe I’m just so disgusting that no one wants to see me in the video and they can’t even look at me”(theshaderoom). The entertainment industry likes to sell women as being someone that girls want to be like and guys want to sleep with. The industry’s obsession with wanting women to have the perfect body is an illusion that effects them mentally down the line. Jojo is a classic case of how toxic the music industry can be and it relates to the constant pressures people are under to be perfect on social media platforms as well.

Wendy’s Bath

How would you feel if you walked into a Wendy’s restaurant and saw one of the employees taking a bath? A Wendy’s in Greenville, Michigan is under investigation after a video surfaces of one of their employees taking a bath in the kitchen’s sink. In the video, one of the employees can be seen giving the guy in the sink a towel to help him clean himself. The guy in the sink can be seen smiling and saying “It feels like a hot tub”.

It is clear that any regulations for keeping food prep surfaces clean has been violated. This unsanitary act was done for the sole purpose of achieving viral fame. Christian Camp, president of Wendy’s human resources team, says “This egregious behavior is completely unacceptable and counter to our safety, training and operational standards”(Today.com) . Eventually, all employees in the video were terminated. I think this story serves as an important lesson for those of us who frequently eat fast food. Be careful and pay attention to everything that is taking place behind the counter as you wait in line to order your food.

THE MOST BEAUTIFUL MAN IN THE WORLD

First it was Bella Hadid and now its Robert Pattinson. British newspaper, The Daily Mail just named Robert Pattinson “the most handsome man in the world”. Dr. Julian De Silva, who is a cosmetic surgeon, uses the “science” of the Golden Ratio of Beauty Phi to measure the ratio of beauty.

Robert Pattinson with Golden Ratio rankings.

The criteria for “perfect face” includes having the length of the ear being equal to the length of the nose and the width of the eyes being equal to the distance of the eyes. This ratio is the same method that was used during the European Renaissance when artists and architects were trying to construct their masterpieces. Robert Pattinson’s face perfection was found to be 91.25% “accurate” based upon the Golden Ratio of Beauty of Phi. I think this criteria pushes the agenda that if your don’t meet these “scientific” beauty standards then you aren’t attractive and that’s a total myth. A person’s worth should be centered on unrealistic ratios.

Introduce Yourself (Example Post)

This is an example post, originally published as part of Blogging University. Enroll in one of our ten programs, and start your blog right.

You’re going to publish a post today. Don’t worry about how your blog looks. Don’t worry if you haven’t given it a name yet, or you’re feeling overwhelmed. Just click the “New Post” button, and tell us why you’re here.

Why do this?

  • Because it gives new readers context. What are you about? Why should they read your blog?
  • Because it will help you focus you own ideas about your blog and what you’d like to do with it.

The post can be short or long, a personal intro to your life or a bloggy mission statement, a manifesto for the future or a simple outline of your the types of things you hope to publish.

To help you get started, here are a few questions:

  • Why are you blogging publicly, rather than keeping a personal journal?
  • What topics do you think you’ll write about?
  • Who would you love to connect with via your blog?
  • If you blog successfully throughout the next year, what would you hope to have accomplished?

You’re not locked into any of this; one of the wonderful things about blogs is how they constantly evolve as we learn, grow, and interact with one another — but it’s good to know where and why you started, and articulating your goals may just give you a few other post ideas.

Can’t think how to get started? Just write the first thing that pops into your head. Anne Lamott, author of a book on writing we love, says that you need to give yourself permission to write a “crappy first draft”. Anne makes a great point — just start writing, and worry about editing it later.

When you’re ready to publish, give your post three to five tags that describe your blog’s focus — writing, photography, fiction, parenting, food, cars, movies, sports, whatever. These tags will help others who care about your topics find you in the Reader. Make sure one of the tags is “zerotohero,” so other new bloggers can find you, too.
